Hello and welcome to the sale of this Series One 80" Land Rover recovery truck. This vehicle has interesting and traceable provenance, it was originally registered in the Taunton area of Somerset, and then went on to become the recovery truck for a long established garage in a small town on Exmoor. It spent the latter part of it's life resting in a hedge out the back of the garage, which is no doubt what has given it the weathered but extremely cool patina to the exterior. You could of course choose to restore the exterior, but personally I think it would be cool to leave it as it is and let it tell it's story. Unfortunately this period of time did take it's toll on the chassis, which you can see from the photos is in need of significant repair or replacement. The body panels are actually all surprisingly good, with some light dents and damage to the rear tub and some modifications for the crane, but the doors, wings, bonnet and screen are all particularly good. It will of course require a full re-wire, and a full overhaul of the running gear. I would estimate the vehicle has not been used for in excess of 30 years. However, what attracted me to this vehicle is several rare, desirable and unique features and some cool period modifications. These obviously include the Harvey Frost crane and modified truck cab, but perhaps not so obvious are the very rare aluminium bulkhead (hence still being in pretty good order) and the Rover P60 2.0 spreadbore engine complete with it's aluminium cylinder head, which was a popular modification to release a few more horsepower. I have not attempted to start the engine, but it does turn over by hand. I have some interesting paperwork with the vehicle, including a very old style logbook, old MOTs and some article clippings of when the vehicle was resting in the hedge. I do not have a new style logbook for it, and it appears to have dropped off of the new DVLA system since it was computerised. But with the paperwork included I am confident that the original number OYC 161 can be re patriated following DVLA protocol. I have another S1 80" which has been in my family 32 years, and I am an active member of the series one owners club. I bought this vehicle with the intention of breaking it for parts for my own car, however having spent some time inspecting and learning the history of this vehicle, I feel that would be a shame and it is more appropriate that I move it on to a fellow enthusiast as a restoration project. You will of course need to have suitable equipment to recover the vehicle from my yard, alternatively I do have a trailer and winch available and can assist with delivery, please ask for a quote if required. I believe this to be the cheapest complete series one available on the market, not even taking into consideration it is an 80" with many redeeming features. I would also consider any other classic, modern or American vehicle in part exchange, or pretty much anything in fact, try me!
